Summerhill lost out to visitors Donaghmore Ashbourne in round two of the Division 1 League on Saturday afternoon in a bright but showery Summerhill.
The home side open brightly and led by three points to two by the 8th minute with two points coming from David Larkin and a point from Sean Dalton. However the visitors hit 5 unanswered point to race into a lead in the run up to halftime. With the clock in the red at the end of the half Summerhill hit two points, a Kevin Lyons mark and a point from Jamie O’Shea to cut the deficit to just two at halftime.

The Ashbourne man started the second-half brightly adding on two points to their tally in the opening couple minutes to stretch the lead back out to 4. In the 5th minute of the half Summerhill struck for a goal. A good ball from Connor Frayne found Kevin Lyons in behind the Ashbourne defence and he cooly slotted the ball into the bottom corner of the net to bring the home side right back into the game. Another Conor Frayne point moments later saw the sides level with all to play for. The home side dominating proceedings for the next 10 minutes but a series of misses meant they had nothing to show for it. Summerhill finally took the lead in 17th minutes with a good point from Jamie O’Shea. Going behind seemed to spur the visitors into life they hit their first point in about 15 minutes to draw the game again. Moments later a ball into the Summerhill square led to some confusion which was settled when referee Frank Scully awarded a penalty to the visitors. The penalty was duley dispatched past goalkeeper Ross Tallon to give the visitors a three-point lead with 10 minutes remaining. Summerhill hit the next two points to cut the deficit to just a single point with three minutes left on the clock. However, the visitors tagged on 3 answered points to stretch the lead out to 4 deep into added on time. With Summerhill pushing forward-looking for a goal the Ashbourne men broke forward to score their second goal in the 32nd minute to end any doubt as to the result. A late Jamie O’Shea left the final score Donaghmore Ashbourne 2-13 Summerhill 1-10. Next up for Summerhill is a game versus Simonstown in a weeks time.
