Premier 2 Championship Rd 2

Summerhill hoped to build on the win in round one against Wolfe Tones when the travelled to Paddy O’Brien Park on Sunday morning to take on Navan O’Mahonys bye in the Premier Division 2 Championship. There was little to choose between the sides in the opening half with the home side going in at the break, leading by 0-11 points to 1-6 with Summerhill ‘s goal coming from Conor Somerville in the 19th minute.

Summerhill made a great start to the 2nd half hitting 2-2 in the first 5 minutes of the half with a goal from Kevin Lyons and the rest coming from the in form Conor Summerville. By the mid-point of the half Summerhill held a five point lead. By the 22nd minute of the half the home side had reduced the gap to just a point with a goal of their own. However Summerhill hit 3 points in a row, one from Summerville and a brace from Jack Regan, to reestablish a 4 point lead as the clock entered the red. In the 3rd minute of injury time the home side converted a free to cut the gap to a single score.  With only seconds remaining O’Mahonys were awarded a free which was dropped into the square and in the resulting scramble an O’Mahonys boot connected with the ball and fired it to the back of the net to tie up the game. There was no time for the kickout as the ref blew for full time. Summerhill would be disappointed to concede so late on but happy to remain unbeaten in the group.   Another huge positive was the return of John Keane to the field after a year out with a knee injury.
