It was heart break for our second team who lost  by a single point scored with the last kick of the game in the Premier Division 2 final played in Skryne on Saturday evening. The game started in but windy conditions but midway through the second-half the heavy rain arrived that turned the game into a lottery by the end.

Summerhill had the better of the exchanges in the first half and led by 7 points to 2 at the break with the scores coming from to free from Cathal Ryan two points from Conor Summerville as well as points from Paul Larkin,  Cathal Brien and Kevin Lyons. St Colmcilles were struggling to break down the Summerhill defence and just had two frees to show for their efforts at the break.

St Colmcilles opened the second-half brightly scoring the first point from a free after two minutes. In the third minute of the half St Colmcilles struck for their goal when one of their  players cut in along the end line before squaring the ball across the face of the goal where it was palmed into the net to bring them right back into the game. Summerhill responded with a Cathal Brien point, but three points in a row from St Colmcilles saw him take lead for the first time in the 20th minute. The game now being played in monsoon conditions with strong winds and torrential rain falling as the game headed towards full time. With time almost up  Kevin Lyons pointed from a free to bring the game to extra time.

In the difficult conditions scores were hard to come by in extra time with players were going down with cramp all over the pitch. St Colmcilles retook the lead by a point at halftime in extra time with Summerhill struggling to get on the scoreboard. With time almost up a good point from Eamonn Ryan equalised the game and it looked like the game was heading for the dreaded penalties. Both sides had chances to win the game but in their final attack St Colmcilles were awarded a free which was scored to take the lead. This turned out to be the last kick of the game to saw St Colmcilles win by a single point.
