Summerhill’s second team recorded their second win in a week when the defeated Navan O’Mahonys in Summerhill on Thursday evening. The Navan men had the better of the opening exchanges and led by six points, 1-5 to 0-2 after 15 minutes. Summerhill rallied at this point and a goal from Cathal Brien brought Summerhill back into the game The home reduced the deficit to just 2 points at the break trailing 1-7 to 1-5. As the half time whistle approached a accidental clash of heads saw midfielder Paddy McGrath who had been playing well up to that stage having to leave the field with what looked like a nasty face injury.

A number of substitutions at the break energized the home side who began the half strongly, two goals in a minute, one from Conor Lyons and a second on the night for Cathal Brien saw Summerhill take control of the contest. Despite trailing by 7 points mid way through the half the O’Mahony’s men never gave up and indeed it took a fine penalty save from keeper Robbie McDonnell to maintain a somewhat comfortable margin. The home side eventual prevailed by five points on a score line of 3-10 to 1-11. Next up is the long trip to Moylagh next Tuesday evening.
