League Div 1 Rd 5

Summerhill traveled to Paddy O’Brien Park on Saturday evening for the 5th round of the league division 1 hoping to pick up their third win of the campaign. The pitch was in great condition, and it was a perfect evening for football. Summerhill lost midfielder Diarmuid McCabe to injury in the warmup and he was replaced by Darragh Tormey, a minor from last year, for his first start in senior football following a few substitute appearances.

Summerhill opened brightly with two quick points from full forward Sean Dalton. O’Mahony’s men hit back with two points off their own to leave the sides level, 2 points apiece after 10 minutes. Summerhill dominated the next 10 minutes of the game, scoring 7 unanswered points. Summerhill were dominating around the middle with O’Mahony’s men struggling to win their own kickouts. Even at this early stage with the match running away from them O’Mahony’s rallied strongly in the last 10 minutes of the half and hit five points of their own to bring them back into the match. A Conor Frayne free on the stroke of half time left the halftime score Summerhill 0-10 O’Mahony’s 0-7.

Summerhill continued to dominate in the early stages of the second half, adding on three unanswered points to extend their lead out to six points with 10 minutes gone. Again, to their credit the O’Mahony’s men hit back with the goal in the 12 minutes to cut the deficit back to three. Summerhill steadied the ship, however, with four further points to extend the lead out to seven with time almost up. O’Mahony’s hit only their 2nd score of the half with a late point deep in injury time to leave the final score Summerhill 0-17, O’Mahony’s 1-8. Next up for Summerhill is a home game versus neighbors Na Fianna in two weeks time.
