Summerhill welcomed Simonstown on Sunday morning for the first round of the Premier Division 6 championship. This was our third adult game of a busy weekend. Summerhill started brightly and raced into a 1-2 no score lead after 8 minutes. The Summerhill goal coming from Conor Summerville following a good knock down from Ray Comey from a Paddy Mulligan centre. Summerhill led by 1-4- to 0-2 after 20 minutes but a goal and two points from the visitors saw them draw level me by the 25th minute. A couple of late points in the half from Gavin McVann, Paddy Mulligan and Darragh McVann left the half time score Summerhill 1-7 Simonstown 1-5.
Given the soft under foot conditions both sides found scores hard to come by in the early stages of the second half and by date 10 minutes both sides had only added one more point to tallies. The game turned in a one minute spell in the middle of the half. Summerhill scored two goals in a minute in the 14th and 15th minutes to put some daylight between themselves and Simonstown. The first coming Ray Comey who latched onto a Jamie Burke shot that dropped short to palm the ball to the back of the net. From the kick out Conor Summerville also found the net for his second goal of the game. Further points from and Gavin McVann and Paddy Mulligan saw Summerhill stretched their lead out too eight points as full time approached. Too late points from Simonstown narrowed the gap slightly to leave the final score Summerhill 3-10 Simonstown 1-10.
Special mention for Bobby McNally who made his first appearance for the club in several years.
