Senior Championship Rd2

Summerhill made it 2 wins from 2 in the Senior Championship in Clonard on Saturday evening. The first half was a tight affair with scores hard to come by, played in heavy rain for the most part. Summerhill’s suffered an early blow with an  injury to Barry Dardis who had to leave the field to be replaced by Conor Frayne. Ballinabrackey scored the first 2 point of the game but as the half wore on Summerhill, despite some bad misses, began to get going and led by 5 points to 2 at the break.

Summerhill maintained their momentum as the 2nd half began and stretched their lead to seven points in the 10th minute when Diarmuid McCabe dispatched a penalty to the back of the net to leave the score 1-7 to 0-3. Ballinabrackey responded in fine style to this setback hitting the next 3 points in a row to close the gap back to 4 points. This momentum was halted in the 22nd minute when Ballinabracky’s Nicky Judge received a straight red card following a challenge on Summerhill’s Adam McDonnell. With the extra man Summerhill  comfortably saw out the remainder of the game. Final Score Summerhill 1-11  Ballinabrackey 0-8.

The win together with results elsewhere guaranteed Summerhill a place in the knockout stages. Next up is  the final group game against neighbours Na Fianna to decide who tops the group.
