A lovely evening in Summerhill for the 3rd round of the Division 1 LMFM Minor Championship. On this occasion Summerhill welcomed Gaeil Colmcille of Kells to our grounds. Eoghan Frayne started the scoring off with a great point from play. This was followed up quickly with a great ball from James Gray into Luke Byrne who took a well taken goal. Then in the next 2 mins Evan Gaffney put over a lovely point from the right hand side, on the kick out Eoghan Frayne caught the ball and put a great ball into Evan Gaffney again who put the goal away without any doubt. Luke Byrne scored a point from a delivery from Conor Crowell. Then Gaeil Colmcille came into the game which required a great save from James Carroll. They then went on to score 2 points without a reply from Summerhill. Finally, with great work by Ben Moran down the middle he was brought to the ground and the resultant free was put over by Eoghan Frayne. A brilliant ball by Euan McGivern just before the 1st water break to Evan Gaffney scoring the last point of the quarter with Summerhill leading 2-05 to 0-02.
After the break Gaeil Colmcille put over a long range point. Again on the kickout Eoghan Frayne gathered the ball and sent in a great pass to Ben Moran who volleyed the ball into the back of the net. Gaeil Colmcille hit back with a point. Eoghan Frayne lifted the tempo again with a point from play, followed quickly by a free on Ben Moran. Then James Gray finished the half with a well worked and taken goal. Half time score Summerhill 4-07 Gaeil Colmcille 0-04.
First out of the blocks was Gaeil Colmcille with a well taken point. Eoghan Frayne hit back with another point from play for Summerhill. A great pass from Eoghan Grehan who was commanding midfield at this point into Evan Gaffney who put the ball over the bar. Conor Crowell who was covering some amount of ground all the game passed into Luke Byrne who got a great point from play. Some great simple football between Luke Byrne and Ben Moran put Darragh McVann in on goal and Darragh was not going to miss this one. The quarter finished with Eoghan Grehan sending Conor Crowell on his way to scoring his 1st point of the game. Score Summerhill 5-11 Gaeil Colmcille 0-05.
After the break with a few misses from Summerhill, Darragh McVann won a free for all his hard work and Eoghan Frayne put the ball over for the point. Gaeil Colmcille worked hard and got a point. Oisin Hussey who was working tirelessly all night in defence got a great block, passed the ball to James Gray who gave it to a waiting Evan Gaffney who got a point from play. Gaeil Colmcille hit back with a point of their own. Again, Eoghan Frayne living up to his captaincy caught a great ball and delivered it into the box, caught by Killian Clarke and passed to Pearse Summerville who only had goal on his mind. Gaeil Colmcille never gave up and again great work by Oisin Hussey denied them a goal in the dying moments, but Gaeil Colmcille finished the scoring of the game with a point.
