B-League Div 1 Rd4

Author: Dermot Clarke

Summerhill’s second string’s poor run in the B-League continued when they lost out to Simonstown at home on Monday evening.  While Simonstown were deserving winners, two late goals made the margin look wider than the play suggested. Indeed Summerhill had a lot of possession and wasted alot of scoring chances throughout where as Simonstown were much more clinical with their finishing.

Summerhill had a poor first half trailing by 9 point to 2 at the break but the introduction of Conor Gillespie at half time reinvigorated them. Summerhill won a penalty straight from the throw in but Eamonn McDonnell’s shot blazed over the bar. Gillespie did find the back of the net in the 40th minute which left just 4 points between the sides. This was to be a close as the Summerhill got as  Simonstown broke forward from the resulting kick out and scored a goal of their own.

On the plus side Summerhill will be encouraged by an improved 2nd half performance. Connie McGrath  made a big difference when moved out to midfield and it was great to see Conor Gillespie back on the scoring sheet. Next up is a trip to Ashbourne next Monday evening.
