Summerhill welcomed Gaeil Colmcille on Sunday morning for this round 2 of the AFL division 1 league . What ensued was a strong physical encounter between the two sides for the 60 minutes. Cilles were first out of the blocks at the start with a goal in the third minute. Points followed from David Larkin And Conor Lyons, these settled Summerhill in the first ten minutes. Shortly after this Kevin Ryan replaced Willie Ryan who was forced off injured.Further points in this half from Barry Dardis Conor Frayne and Liam Shaw saw Summerhill go in at the break leading 0-7 to 1-2.
The re-start once again saw Cilles out sharpest with another goal in the opening minutes..they scored three points with no reply from Summerhill and blazed into the lead 2-5 to Summerhill 0-7. There were a flurry of yellow cards for both sides and a red card for the Summerhill goalie in the latter end of this game,as Iarla Hughes Caolan Young and John Keane put in a tough shift for Summerhill. After another tackle on Dardis, he was taken down and Summerhill were awarded a penalty with ten minutes on the clock. But unfortunately the penalty shot by Shaw was just shy of the post.
With a hard won free awarded to Kevin Ryan which was scored by Liam Shaw this game finished 0-8 to Gaeil Colmcilles 2-8. This was Summerhill’s only score of the second half as opposed to Gaeil Colmcilles speedy scores of 1-6 .
