Summerhill and Moylagh contested a thrilling Ladies Intermediate Championship match in Summerhill on Friday night.

The visitors started brightly and went into an early lead. Jenny Rispin got Summerhill’s first point and then scored a brilliant solo goal to put them into a narrow lead.

That lead was short lived as Moylagh went back in front with two goals in quick succession. Ceilidh Dalton was moved into midfield and kicked over two good points to keep Summerhill in touch.

Jenny Rispin and Barbara Kelly scored two more goals, both finished to the net after well worked moves from defence. This left the minimum between the sides at half-time.

Moylagh’s half-time lead would’ve been more only for some good defending by Olivia Comey, Lauren Moody, Ciara Daly, Aishling O’Donoghue and goalkeeper Louise Magee.

Summerhill captain Ann-Marie Fagan was again in outstanding form in midfield and was showing well in both defence and attack. Summerhill introduced Amy Tyrrell early in the second-half and she scored a long range goal to narrow the gap.

Moylagh continued to keep the scoreboard ticking with some fine points and Jenny Rispin was doing her best to cancel them out with some good scores. Ceilidh Dalton scored her third point of the game in the closing stages.

It was an exciting last few minutes in which Summerhill battled hard and Mary Barry scored a late goal after a quick thinking free kick from Rispin. Summerhill had the ball in the net again in the final minutes but the goal was disallowed by the referee. Jenny Rispin pointed again with the last kick of the game but Summerhill’s efforts were in vain as they lost out narrowly in a thrilling match.

Best for Summerhill were Lauren Moody, Ciara Daly, Ann-Marie Fagan, Olivia Comey, Clodagh Gillespie and Jenny Rispin. Summerhill now have two wins and two defeats from their first four Championship appearances and will need a victory over Walterstown next week to keep their qualification chances alive.
