Reserve Cup Division 2

Our 3rd team played their first game of the year in Bective on a cool and blustery Saturday afternoon. Summerhill trailed by 0-7 to 0-4 at the break but would have been happy enough as the home hide played with the elements in the 1st half. The only negative was the loss of Brian Rispin with a knee injury. Just before the break Summerhill were forced to go down to 14 players when Euan McGivern also had to go off injured.

There were discussions at the break about the rule that teams should play down to match the opponents numbers but the home side continues with their 15 players as the 2nd half began.  Despite the numerical disadvantage Summerhill scored the first point of the 2nd half to close the gap to just 2 points but unfortunately Summerhill then lost Oisin Hussey to an ankle injury with 5 minutes of the half gone. Slowly but surely despite a great effort from the Summerhill men Bective made their 2 man advantage pay and his 2-3 without reply. Summerhill finished the stronger with some of the younger players showing greatly energy and tagged on 1-2 without reply. The goal bizarrely was an own goal where pressure from the Summerhill forwards resulted in a Bective defender firing to the back of his own net.  Final score Summerhill 1-7 Bective 2-10.

It was a game of debuts  for Summerhill with another 2 of last years minors David Moore and Dylan Ryan playing their first games in adult football. Also we’ll done to Paddy Mulligan making his debut having joined the club this year. Last but not least we have Ross Tallon who played having rejoined the club this year after a year away.
