A-League Div 1 Rd9

Summerhill continued their good form in the league with a well deserved win against Gaeil Colmcilles in Summerhill on Tuesday evening. The home side were quickest out of the blocks scoring four excellent point from play with in the first 8 minutes and were dominating all over the pitch. In a rare foray forward the Kells men were awarded a penalty in the 11th minute by referee David Coldrick which they dispatched to the back of the net to bring them right back into the game. The home side were undaunted by this setback and continued to keep the score board ticking over. In the 24th minute of the half David Larkin intercepted a short kick out and fed the ball on to Eamonn McDonnell who scored a fine goal to further stretch the home sides lead. The half time score was Summerhill 1-11 Gaeil Colmcilles 1-2.

The second half began with the visitors applying a bit more pressure as they tried to eat in to the home sided big lead. The Kells men scored two early points but the home side soon got back into their rhythm hitting 1-4 with out reply to stretch the lead out to fifteen points. The goal came in the thirteen minute when a ball in from Conor Lyons was pick up by Cathal Ryan who played it on to the in rushing Davy Larkin who drove a fine shot to the back of the net. With the home side emptying the bench the Kells side pick off some late points to reduce the margin to nine points by the end. The final score was Summerhill 2-17 Gaeil Colmcilles 1-11.

The win maintains Summerhill’s position at the top of the league for the moment but  the competition is really hotting up for the top two positions to make the final. Next up is an away trip to Ratoath in two weeks time.
