A-League Div 1 Rd8

Summerhill made the long trip to Piltown to take on St Colmcilles in Round 8 of the A-League Division 1 on Tuesday evening. Summerhill were hoping to build on the win against Wolfe Tones in the previous round as they took on the hosts who were unbeaten in the league and stood at the top of the table.

Summerhill made their intentions clear from the off and raced in to a four point lead with points from Conor Frayne, Padhraig Geraghty and a brace from Conor Lyons. Fifteen minutes had elapsed before the home side had their first attempt on goals when they converted a free. Summerhill continued to dominate possession and scored some great points as the home side struggled to get a foot hold in the game. The final point of the half was a great effort from Eoghan Frayne from distance that saw Summerhill lead at the break on a score line of 0-9 to 0-3.

The second half was a more even affair as the home side showing glimpse of the form they had been showing all year. As the half progressed Summerhill held a comfortable lead  and the result was never really in doubt. The final score finished Summerhill 0-17 St Colmcilles 0-11. The win, combined with other results on the night saw Summerhill replace the home side as table toppers at least for the moment. Next up is a home game against Gaeil Colmcilles in two weeks time.

The only negative from the evening was what looks like a serious injury picked up by Sean Dalton early in the game. We wish Seanie all the best and hope the injury is not as serious as it seems.
