Summerhill 3.06 St Colmcilles 1.13

Bettystown brought the beach to Summerhill on Sunday morning for this second round clash in hot humid conditions. This was a tight tense affair with first half scores coming from Luke Moran (3 total, 2 frees), a goal from Adam Larkin who took on his man before unleashing a bullet from 13 metres with the left foot, and the mighty Connie McGrath closed the first half scoring with a point after great support play from his midfield berth.
Half time score Summerhill 1.04 St Colmcilles 0.07.
The second half was equally tight and Luke Moran was again to the fore with a goal quickly followed up by a point from a free. At the second water break the home side seemed  in control of events. Ahead by 2.05 to 0.09, Summerhill piled it on immediately with a further goal from debutant Timmy o Connell, while Moran added another point from play. This was to be the last score however as a combination of fatigue and mistakes in possession allowed Cilles to claw their way back level. Summerhill just couldn’t get enough ball in those closing stages and the visitors tacked on two more points to take their first points of the campaign.
