Joe Mooney An Appreciation

It was with great sadness that  we learned of the passing of Joe Mooney in his 86th year, after a short illness.

Joe played football for the Club having won a Junior ‘A’ Championship medal in 1966.He was one of the last surviving players who played hurling for Summerhill in the 1950’s.

Joe served on the Committee in Summerhill at different stages, he also umpired at games in both Summerhill and Pairc Tailteann where he also did stewarding many times.

Joe was a great Gael and proud Summerhill man who rarely missed a club game, and was a huge follower of Meath and enjoyed nothing more than going to Croke Park for the big occasion. Probably two of his proudest moments were when his son Joseph and his grandson Gary Gill both won U21 Championship medals with the club.

Joe was a character around the village and will be missed.

Summerhill GFC did a socially distanced  guard of honour  on the roadside as the funeral arrived at the Church.

Our deepest sympathy goes to Joe’s wife Eileen and family Carol, Donal, Stephanie, Martin, Fergus, Joseph, Majella and John. Brothers Cecil and Donie, sisters Marguerite and Lil.

Ar dheis De go raibh a anam.
