B-League Div 4 Rd 9

Our 3rd team finished their B-League campaign with a defeat at home to St Ultans on a scoreline of 2-16 to 1-12 on Thursday evening. Summerhill lead 1-6 to 0-7 at the break and the game was tight throughout the 2nd half but a few late scores from St Ultans saw them run out winners.

While the results in this league may not have gone our way the players and mentors can take a lot out of their performances. This team is a vital link for our younger players between underage and adult football. Since the minor age grade has moved to under 17 it means lads who are over 17 are finished with underage football. Attempts in Meath last year to introduce an under 19s grade did not work. Some of these young players may not be just ready to play 2nd or 1st team football just yet so this team is vital to keep them playing and give them the experience of playing adult football.

Players from last years minor team like Conor Ryan, Conor Summerville, Jack Brennan, Adam Larkin, Kian Hussey, Harry Ryan, Jamie Ryan as well as players from the previous years minor team like Kyle Cosgrove, Dylan Byrne and Ronan Larkin, got lots of game time with this team that will stand to them in the future. Several of them are already getting games with the second team and more will follow.

This team is also backboned by some “very” experienced players. Players like John Comey, Nathan Nangle, Brian & Gary Rispin, Jermey Ennis, Cathal Ennis, Ray Comey, Gary Gill are great examples to these younger players. Philip McGuinness who got injured earlier in the year also deserves a mention.

Team: Gary Gill, Cathal Ennis, John Comey, Patrick Troy, Tommy Troy, Jamie Ryan, Jermey Ennis, Conor McNally (0-1),Brian Rispin, Adam Larkin (0-4,2f), Ray Comey, Jack Brennan (1-0), Harry Ryan, Gary Rispin (0-1), Kian Hussey (0-5, 2f).
