Summerhill’s hopes of reaching the Seamus Connolly Catering Sponsored ACF’A’League Div1. final were dashed when Gaeil Colmcills advanced to the final at Pairc Tailteann on Wednesday evening.
After getting off to the better start Summerhill failed to capitalise on the amount of possession they had and went in at the break on level terms four points each. With the loss of midfielder Ross Ryan to injury just before half time, the Kells men were quicker out of the blocks and a goal nine minutes into the half put five points between the sides(1-7 to 0-5).
The Kells men delivered a hammer blow to Summerhill when on the eighteenth minute the got their second goal which left seven points between them. But credit to the hill they fought back and a powerful goal from Barry Dardis (who contributed 1-4) left four between them with seven minutes left. Hard as they tried Summerhill couldn’t get the second goal they needed and Kells held out for the victory .
