Minor Championship Rd 4

Summerhill 5-19 Killary Emmets 1-13

After a sluggish enough start Summerhill came out on top of to retain their unbeaten run and finish top of the group with full points after 4 games in this Div 3 B minor championship game. The win also secures a home semifinal game in a couple of weeks.

Although it looked as if the Hill boys were going to open up the home defence with an Eoghan Frayne point in the first 10 seconds, it was not to be as Emmets scored the next 5 points without reply, aided by a strong breeze. A goal from Adam Larkin, who doubled his tally 10 minutes later stemmed the tide somewhat, but the home side still tacked on the scores to lead by three at the break.

The second period was a different story. Some stern words from mentors had the desired effect and Summerhill resumed the play with much more drive and purpose throughout the field. In particular the “middle third” was dominated by the Hill lads for much of the half, with Conor Ryan, Adam McDonnell and Luke Moran in top form in the half back line , preventing Emmets from getting any momentum going. Quick hands by Jack Brennan, the drive and accuracy of Jamie O’Shea, Eoghan Frayne and Conor Summerville, all contributed to a comfortable winning margin in this round 4 game.
